i moved into a new apartment at the beginning of 2017 and i have loved every minute of it from dressing it up, cleaning it up, tidying it up, and fixing it up. this was my first space to do whatever i wanted in. my goal was for the space to be light, bright, simple, and airy. below is a breakdown of two of the areas in my apartment: the living room and bedroom. more to come later!
the living room: my living room was the space i truly had to start from scratch with because i had nothing for it! my first find was the rug (which i picked up months before i knew i was going to be moving), the rug was on sale at Trees n Trends in my hometown... the design was called Bali Gold... the name and sale price sealed the deal... and that is probably rule number one to never base your design scheme off of a rug, but oh well. i got the poof from Target a couple years ago - you can't go wrong with Target's home goods. it was by chance and more of me just needing a foot rest that i placed the poof in the living room, but i love the pattern mixing with it and the rug. the decorative pillows on the couch also came from Target (more recently). i took a trip to IKEA before moving in and at that point i had decided that my color scheme for the living room would be yellow/grey/light wood accents. i picked up a coffee table set (came with two tables! a large and small table) and a side table. i loved the grey and light wood accent on the coffee table set and i loved the yellow of the side table (the side table's top also detaches and can be used as a serving tray!). my first day at my apartment i had to go to class and my mom had come with me to set up my apartment so she actually went to pick out the couch and chair while i was at class! she went to Furniture Row and did an excellent job picking up these pieces. the decor consists of: a canvas of my brother and myself from Katie Blattel Photography on the wall above the couch, succulents i planted in antique milk glass cups, magazines, a framed picture of my puppy, a Ganesh figurine, and coasters from Mollie Paperie. bedroom: i had most all my bedroom belongings prior to moving in such as my mattress, bed frame, trunk, night stand, and bedding. my sheet set is from Target, in a pale blush pink, along with the pale blush pink knit blanket. and a Kate Spade comforter from Bed Bath and Beyond. the head board is something i had made after i visited IKEA, its simply three stair rail banisters from Menards cut to size, shaped, sanded, screwed together with an IKEA sheer curtain draping from the top banister. super easy and way cheaper than buying a whole new bed frame set! the lamp on the night stand is also from IKEA, but was a holiday clearance item! the simple color palette, draping of the head board, and whimsy of the star lamp gives the bedroom such a dreamy and peaceful vibe.
