i love traveling and experiencing new things... i was sad to leave Chicago on tuesday! we didn't do much except walk, eat, drink, and wait around. starting off the day with brunch at Brunch - that's right. there were great reviews and images on google (thank you google for guidance) and though it was quite a walk from the hotel, it was fun to see parts of the city we hadn't ventured to. brunch was a cute place nestled along a more residential area, i had the breakfast burrito and a cup of coffee. the burrito was really yummy - i got it with carnitas and it came with potatoes and jalapeño creama (yum!). after brunch at brunch i really wanted to get coffee at a place recommended to us by my brother's friend. Bow Truss Coffee Roasters was a simple, hip place to grab a good, artisan coffee. i hadn't even had a vanilla latte or anything besides a cup of coffee wherever we ate breakfast - this is a rarity in my life! my Bow Truss vanilla latte was worth the two day latte detox. we went to pick up out bags at the hotel and chilled in the lobby to kill some time before heading out again. in my last post (about Chicago day 2) i wrote about discovering Goddess and the Baker a bakery straight from my dreams - i had to go back before we went town! my brother was with us this time so i'm glad he got to check out the bakery - he even jumped on my matcha loving train and ordered the matcha lemonade and a chicken club (both looked divine). of course, i couldn't resist ordering the iced matcha latte once more but i tried a different pastry this time, the peanut butter banana chocolate chip scone. the matcha latte was gone in a blink of an eye (it's that good...) and i saved my scone for the train ride. thankfully before we left i also bought a bottle of green tea and placed a take out order for the avocado toast at Goddess and the Baker to have as my dinner on the train. once we all got our food, drinks, pastries from Goddess and the Baker and took in the charm of the bakery one last time we strapped on our backpacks and walked toward Chicago's Union Station to catch the train back toward Missouri. thank goodness we brought drinks and food on the train because as soon as we boarded and the train started moving we ran into a delay that caused us to sit on the tracks for over an hour (we hadn't even been aboard for 20 minutes!). needless to say the ride back was much longer than anticipated so we were exhausted from traveling. isn't it weird how just sitting in a car, train, plane, etc. can be so exhausting? it's worth it in the end. driving back from the train station wasn't too fun either... there were (i'd say..) fifty deer grazing, frolicking around the road which made me tense as can be so i drove like a grandma and i'm not ashamed one bit - brights on, eyes strained.
thank you Chicago! britney
