brunch at Pine State Biscuits was amazing! i had a bacon, egg, and cheddar biscuit with house-made chocolate milk (amazing) while my mom and brother had the blueberry pancakes (i had a bite and wow were those pancakes perfect. Pine State Biscuits was another recommendation by my hometown friends/owners of Dynamite Coffee.
we then went to the Portland Art Museum. i was so excited, i've been researching this museum for awhile now. what a big place (it's easy to get lost in!) and hopefully i covered the entire grounds. being an art history minor i have been studying many of the artists i saw today, so seeing some of their pieces in person was so rewarding. i was most excited about seeing The Ride by Paige Powell, Paige is a native Oregonian and has been around so many renowned artists of the 20th century such as Basquait and Warhol. The Ride is an engaging installation - i geeked out. i bought a coffee mug to commemorate by time at the Portland Art Museum, fitting? i think so. yay! okay, then we went to Powell's bookstore. SOMEHOW I DIDN'T TAKE A PICTURE! possibly because there are a million books there and lately i am obsessed with memoirs. so i got a memoir (Carry on, Warrior by Glennon Doyle Melton) and looked at a million books. loved it. next, we sampled yet another foodie recommendation: Little Big Burger. it was really good and really fresh. definitely a great place for a quick, inexpensive fill up! of course shopping happened... of course we had to go get some espresso as well! our faves at Dynamite Coffee recommended Barista. i had a vanilla latte (of course!) it was so light and satisfying. the space Barista is in is comfy and creative - i could totally have sat there to do homework and smell the coffee wafting in the wet portland air. i love their logo, click on the link, it's worth it! we ventured out to northwest 23rd street in the Nob Hill district - what a cute area! there are many restaurants and boutiques along with adorable homes/apartments of industrial and old charm. we didn't eat at 23rd street because we had several people back at home recommend eating at Pok Pok. holy guacamole (or in this case i should say holy fish sauce!). Pok Pok was worth the 30 minute wait. lemme tell ya. first of all, they had my brother's favorite beer from his trip to Thailand in 2015. second of all, they really succeed in bringing forth traditional Thai culture not only in their food but in the way their customers eat the food. the food is recommended to be ordered family style and for customers to eat the food as if they were Thai. the waiters are very knowledgable and patient to teach you how to successfully eat your meal in Thai fashion. i ate my meal with my fingers! i had brussel sprouts, Thai tuna salad (SPICY but yummy), sampled curry soup, and got messy with the chicken wings. you must get the chicken wings, they are soooooo worth it, everyone gets the chicken wings. tomorrow we will spend some more time in portland and head out for bend, oregon! p.s. sizzle pie last night was ahhhhmazing! oregon and out! britney
